Overview of Net-Zero Future 2025
The Net-Zero Future 2025 Conference is a landmark international event focused on advancing research, innovation, and best practices to achieve a sustainable, net-zero carbon built environment. As part of the broader “Net-Zero Future” project, this second annual conference will be held in the dynamic city of Cape Town, South Africa, from November 5th to 7th, 2025.

Cape Town is known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and growing reputation as a hub for innovation in sustainable development.

Surrounded by the iconic Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, the city offers a unique backdrop for this global event, which brings together leading experts, researchers, industry practitioners, and policymakers worldwide.

Recognizing the need for collaboration across various disciplines, the Net-Zero Future conference aims to bridge gaps between materials science, structural engineering, robotics, sustainability, and policy fields. The focus will be on exploring innovative solutions and best practices across the entire lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure—from design and construction to operation and end-of-life.

The conference program will feature keynote addresses from globally renowned thought leaders, technical sessions highlighting cutting-edge research, and practical case studies showcasing sustainable innovations. Panel discussions will address pressing industry challenges, while interactive workshops will provide hands-on learning opportunities, fostering knowledge exchange and stimulating creative problem-solving.

The conference will spotlight five key thematic areas:
  1. Preparation processes for a zero (or negative) carbon footprint: Exploring innovations in materials, including low-carbon and carbon-neutral alternatives, sustainable production techniques, and the integration of recycled and renewable resources.
  2. Robotic construction technologies for minimum formwork and on-site activities: Delving into how robotics and automation can enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve safety in construction processes.
  3. Novel structural design for optimal performance and least material usage: Focusing on developing high-performance, lightweight structures that maximize energy efficiency and resource conservation.
  4. Advanced condition assessment and health monitoring for long service life: Presenting cutting-edge technologies for predictive maintenance and extending the lifespan of buildings and infrastructure.
  5. Innovative life-cycle analysis and policy-making for effective infrastructure management: Investigating collaborative approaches to life-cycle assessments, cost-efficiency, and the development of flexible, future-proof design strategies.

In addition to its technical content, the Net-Zero Future conference will offer ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with peers, form new partnerships, and exchange best practices. A key goal of the event is to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government, ensuring that innovative ideas can be translated into practical solutions and policies that drive real-world change.

The Net-Zero Future conference series rotates its location annually, providing a global perspective and highlighting regional innovations and challenges. By holding the 2025 edition in Cape Town, the conference will shine a spotlight on Africa’s unique contributions to the global net-zero movement while also providing a platform to discuss the continent’s specific sustainability challenges and opportunities.

Join us in Cape Town for an inspiring and transformative event where we will work together to accelerate the transition towards a net-zero carbon future, shaping a sustainable built environment for future generations.
